Fabric & the Conservation of Cultures

From the collection of Mary Jose, Fabric of Life

6 June – 20 July 2025

OPENING: 6pm Thursday 5 June
To be opened by Nigel Hopkins, Walkley Award winning journalist, textile enthusiast and hills dweller.

A conservator preserves material culture, allowing us to understand the cultural life of its makers through tangible objects.

An exhibition of textiles from Central Asia, India, and Australia, each carrying the story of its origins. While the identity of the artisan is not always known, the textiles themselves reveal their heritage through their design, materials, and construction techniques, offering a glimpse into the cultural traditions and skills of the makers.
