Two different spy holes, in two different building Two different spy holes, in two different buildings, peeping across to each other.
Construction work sometimes happens behind closed doors and even inside the walls. This work is the beginning of a walkway between the upstairs Blanket Building at the back and what will become the upstairs textiles Reading Room at the front. We are keen to ensure that our whole site is accessible for all, and the installation of new stairs and a lift in the Blanket Building will replace the existing steep and scary stairs.

The focus for the last few weeks has been our beautiful Building 21, installing plumbing and framework for the new toilets, constructing a lovely new wall for exhibitions and displays, and improving accessibility at our entryways.
Families who lost their homes in the 2019 Cudlee C Families who lost their homes in the 2019 Cudlee Creek bushfire are now starting to move into their new houses. But making a new house feel like home after such a devastating loss takes time.

Over the last few months the wonderful Deb Twining from @twiningarts worked with local families to create new art for their new walls. These artworks were professionally photographed by Sam Oster from @silvertrace and printed for display on shop windows throughout Lobethal for #salafestival

So rug up for a winter wander through Lobethal and share the hope of recovery and resilience.

For the last two years, a small group of artists have been quietly offering creative care to our community after the Cudlee Creek bushfire: teaching, listening, supporting and inspiring. Towards the end of 2021, Fabrik brought these artists together for a day of making and storytelling, offering back to them the creative nourishment they had so generously offered to others.

This gathering led to the idea of an exhibition, exploring the gentle, rich, radical philosophy of slow making and repurposing; of honouring and adding to the stories that lie latent within the ordinary objects in our lives.
As Fabrik heads towards a major redevelopment, incorporating repair and looking toward a renewed purpose of its beautiful heritage buildings, this exhibition carries a similar intent of mending, reuse and repurpose.

A retail space of artisan-made items aligning with this focus of repurposing and recycling has been carefully curated to complement the exhibition.
The works in Retelling are accompanied by selected items from private collections and from the collection of the The Embroiderers’ Guild of South Australia

Flocking Together Mill Square 9-11pm Until 23 Dece Flocking Together
Mill Square
9-11pm
Until 23 December

Flocking Together celebrates renewal, revitalisation and the return of the birds and bushland after the 2019 Cudlee Creek fire. In the months after the fire, over 400 local children contributed drawings that depicted the regeneration of local bushland and their hope for the return of the birds. Projection art company @illuminart_au meticulously animated these images, adding spoken word by local writer Belinda Broughton and sounds from nature, to create a captivating light show, projected onto the heritage buildings of Fabrik in Mill Square.

As the community gathers for the first @thelightsoflobethal festival since the fires, this project connects us with each other and with the natural world around us, through the joy and energy of children’s creativity.

Bookings only required this weekend during our Christmas Twilight Markets (see link in bio for market details).

Flocking Together was made possible through the hard work of the illuminart team, local artist and school teacher Anne Griffiths, local writer Belinda Broughton, 400 local children and their teachers and funding from the National Recovery and Resilience Agency.
