Today's redevelopment work-in-progress pics reveal Today's redevelopment work-in-progress pics reveal a fascinating little-known variation between the external street level and internal floor level in the Mill Shed. From Lobethal's Main Street, the new windows designed by architects Walter Brooke and Associates will provide an elevated view of the new heritage interpretation planned, sharing the stories of the Mill site and the people who worked and walked there in the past. With almost a metre in difference between the two levels, it's exciting to see what we previously could only imagine. We look forward to sharing it all with you when we reopen in early 2024.

Tiny treasures found... When the builders removed Tiny treasures found...
When the builders removed a section of floorboards in the Blanket Building to make way for the new lift, they discovered that the floor has been quietly making its own tiny blankets.Fibres from the blanket manufacturing process had made their way into the spaces between the floorboards and over the years, friction from foot traffic bonded the fibres of the woollen blankets into these strips of loosely felted fabric. While these tiny blanket strips are far from the most beautiful blankets we've seen, we are so in love with the story of their creation.
We thought you might like to take a peek at what's We thought you might like to take a peek at what's happening at Fabrik. There's so much going on behind the scenes as our spaces are being stripped back to the bare essentials as a part of the redevelopment and renewal. These images of the Blanket Building with its glorious saw tooth roof share both architect Walter Brooke and Associates concept for our A-class Gallery space + the same space opened up, cleared and ready for its transformation. We look forward to sharing the space with you when we re-open in early 2024.

Two different spy holes, in two different building Two different spy holes, in two different buildings, peeping across to each other.
Construction work sometimes happens behind closed doors and even inside the walls. This work is the beginning of a walkway between the upstairs Blanket Building at the back and what will become the upstairs textiles Reading Room at the front. We are keen to ensure that our whole site is accessible for all, and the installation of new stairs and a lift in the Blanket Building will replace the existing steep and scary stairs.
