Gardens of the Heart – poetry by chance

Gardens of the Heart – poetry by chance

What a way to kick start Fabrik! Our first exhibition, launched in February 2019, was a pretty special collaboration between artist India Flint, the creative group h.ART and over 200 artists from around the world.

While we like to think of India as one of our very own, (as home, for her, is in our part of the Adelaide Hills), she has friends, followers, students and an art practice that keeps her travelling and connected around the globe.

This exhibition brought together these connections through the mediums of textiles and poetry. Participants were invited to compose and stitch text of a first, middle or closing line. Nobody knew what anybody else was creating.

In the weeks before the exhibition, parcels arrived in Lobethal’s sweet little post office from over 20 countries. India invited local participating artists to join her in stitching the pieces into three-lined poems which India then installed on suspended lines that threaded their way through the gallery space.

This video, created by India, provides a beautiful documentation of a heartfelt and poetic exhibition.
