Held every two years, Artlands is Australia’s largest regional arts gathering. To accommodate the changing health situation and border closures, Artlands 2021 will be delivered as hybrid gatherings in five locations across Australia, including Fabrik in Lobethal on Peramangk and Kaurna land (Adelaide Hills).

The theme for Artlands 2021 is ‘The Space Between – Conversations about Practice through the intersection of people and place’ making Fabrik, with its weaving and textile history, an ideal venue for the South Australian gathering. Over the two days a dynamic program will be presented that helps art workers and artist move into the future through place-based creativity, cultural tourism best practice and First Nations knowledge.

The South Australian program links people, place and practice with a focus on sharing and connection. The program will feature South Australian speakers and artists presenting and leading activities live at Fabrik, as well as streamed sessions from Launceston and other regional hubs. Presentations will cover First Nations knowledge systems, future-thinking, learning from nature and community arts and cultural development to enhance tourism in the regions. Workshops and activities include weaving, sound meditation, poetry, fire talks and First Nations-led conversations on design, language and ‘critiquing’ art.
